March vehicle production in Thailand up 2.7% (Flash Report)
On April 27, 2026, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) reported that Thailand produced 133,413 vehicles in March 2026, marking a 2.7% YoY increase. Around 33% of total production was allocated to domestic sales, while the remaining 67% was destined for export markets. Passenger vehicle production included 21,822 HEVs and 4,962 BEVs. For the January–March 2026 period, total vehicle production rose 5.3% YoY to 369,751 units, with passenger HEV production reaching 56,109 units and passenger BEV production totaling 10,495 units.
Vehicle exports in March 2026 edged down 0.6% YoY to 80,394 units, with the slight decline attributed primarily to the temporary closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which caused vehicle shipments to the Middle East to drop by approximately 16% compared with March 2025. Nevertheless, exports to Australia, Africa, Europe, Central America, and South America recorded growth. In the first quarter of 2026, cumulative vehicle exports stood at 219,994 units, representing a 2.0% YoY decline.
Domestic vehicle sales in March 2026 reached 59,865 units, increasing 7.3% YoY. Passenger vehicle sales included 12,074 BEVs and 14,895 HEVs, while internal combustion engine (ICE) pickup truck sales totaled 13,991 units. During January–March 2026, domestic vehicle sales rose 18.9% YoY to 182,083 units. This total comprised 50,141 passenger BEVs and 40,230 passenger HEVs, while ICE pickup truck sales reached 38,493 units.
According to the FTI, the increase in domestic sales was aligned with strong vehicle deliveries from bookings made during Motor Show 2026, particularly in the EV segment. Despite the broader market recovery, pickup truck sales remained under pressure due to tighter lending conditions and sluggish economic growth, both of which continued to weigh on financing approvals.
Industry stakeholders are calling on the new government to swiftly implement fiscal policies and budgetary measures aimed at accelerating public investment, restoring investor confidence, and stimulating broader economic activity. Enhanced industrial and economic stimulus is also viewed as critical to boosting production, improving manufacturing capacity utilization, and strengthening Thailand’s long-term competitiveness.

February vehicle production in Thailand up 3.4% (Flash Report)
On March 24, 2026, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) reported that Thailand produced 117,952 vehicles in February 2026, up 3.4% YoY. Approximately 31% of total production was for domestic sales, while 69% was for exports. Passenger car output included 14,939 HEVs and 3,446 BEVs (revised). In January–February 2026, total vehicle production rose 6.9% YoY to 236,338 units. Passenger HEV production reached 34,287 units, while passenger BEV production, reflecting revisions to previously reported figures for both January and February, totaled 5,533 units.
Vehicle exports in February 2026 declined marginally by 0.05% YoY to 81,195 units. In January–February 2026, vehicle exports totaled 139,600 units, down 2.8% YoY.
Domestic vehicle sales in February 2026 totaled 48,242 units, down 2.2% YoY. Passenger car sales included 6,168 BEVs and 12,706 HEVs, while ICE pickup truck sales amounted to 12,998 units. In January–February 2026, domestic vehicle sales rose 25.5% YoY to 122,218 units, following a revision to January 2026 sales to 73,976 units. The total included 38,067 passenger BEVs and 25,335 passenger HEVs, while ICE pickup truck sales reached 24,502 units, with all three totals reflecting revisions to their January 2026 figures.
FTI attributed the sales decline mainly to slower EV demand following the end of the EV 3.0 incentive scheme. Pickup trucks and ICE passenger vehicles also declined due to tighter lending conditions amid sluggish economic growth and weak purchasing power, while investment remains on hold pending clarity on the new government’s policies. Meanwhile, ongoing conflicts involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran have raised concerns over exports amid rising energy prices, contributing to global inflation and further pressuring consumer spending. Analysts expect modest economic growth in Thailand, which could continue to weigh on domestic vehicle and motorcycle sales.

January vehicle production in Thailand up 10.5% (Flash Report)
On February 24, 2026, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) reported that Thailand produced 118,386 vehicles in January 2026, up 10.5% YoY. Despite the increase, the FTI described the growth as modest, noting that monthly production levels had previously reached between 140,000 and 150,000 units. Approximately 24% of total production in January 2026 was sold domestically, while 76% was exported. Passenger vehicle output included 19,348 HEVs and 2,471 BEVs.
Vehicle exports declined 6.3% YoY in January 2026 to 58,405 units. ICE pickup trucks, which account for more than 62% of total vehicle exports, also recorded a YoY decrease.
Domestic vehicle sales in January 2026 rose 53.8% YoY to 73,936 units. The January 2025 sales figure was revised to 48,082 units. Passenger vehicle sales in January 2026 included 31,859 BEVs and 12,654 HEVs, while ICE pickup truck sales totaled 11,507 units.
According to the FTI, sales growth was driven by accelerated EV deliveries under the EV 3.0 scheme and the 2:1 compensatory production requirement under the EV 3.5 scheme, boosting passenger vehicle sales. However, pickup sales continued to decline amid tight auto lending, weak purchasing power, and low capacity utilization.
Encouragingly, the Thai economy showed early signs of recovery in Q4 2025, supported by stronger investment, particularly from the private sector and rising machinery imports. However, a key challenge remains: the new government has yet to be officially formed. Once in place, it is expected to fast-track approved projects to stimulate job creation, boost income, and support Thailand’s economic growth.
