Beijing Motor Show 2016 (Part 3) Chinese OEMs: Competing Displays of New Energy Vehicles

BAIC Motor reveals the near supercar-level ARCFOX-7, BYD's Dynasty series familiarizes EVs

Summary

This final installment of the series on the 2016 Beijing Motor Show continues from the previous report, which looked at Japanese and Korean Manufacturers. This report will focus on environmentally friendly vehicles from Chinese automobile manufacturers, as well as their major world-premiere models.

BAIC Automotive Group Co., Ltd., which has its head office in Beijing, revealed its new policy aimed at 2020 and exhibited concept cars. Moreover, BAIC Group displayed more of its own brand vehicles at this exhibition than it had at any previous motor show held in China, and many attendees came to its booths. China’s number one automobile maker, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation Group, revealed a connected car at the New Venue of the China International Exhibition Center, and actively promoted new energy vehicles at the Old Venue.

BYD Company, which sold the most new energy vehicles in China in 2015 (PHEVs and EVs), emphasized the catchphrase “vehicles for the people of China,” and exhibited vehicles from their “Dynasty Series,” such as the Qin and Yuan. Chery Automobile Group revealed cars like the X3 connected car targeted at younger generations from their affiliate, the Cowin Auto brand, and an EV concept car from Qoros, a joint venture company established with an Israeli investment firm.

There were 815 thousand visitors at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show, a decrease of 35 thousand in comparison to the 2014 Show. However, with the number of new models introduced by each manufacturer and nationwide initiatives for new energy vehicles, there was a noticeable air of excitement.
