Summary
The e-Axle in the BMW iX xDrive50 uses wound-field synchronous motors (WFSM) to generate a maximum output of 190kW at the front wheels and 230kW at the rear wheels. The raw material sourcing risk of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) containing rare earths has led to the adoption of electrically-excited synchronous motor (EESM). This technology has begun to be adopted on the Nissan Aria and by BMW. This report compares the PMSM (Nidec Ni200Ex) installed in the Geely Automobile Holdings Limited (Geely Auto) Zeekr 001 and the structural design and features between the two models (i.e., BMW iX and Zeekr 001).
