At the Automotive Engineering Exposition 2016 Yokohama, various suppliers exhibited their autonomous-driving technologies and advanced driver assistance systems (ADASs) following from the previous year (Click here to see last year's report.)
Denso Corporation and Hitachi Automotive Systems, Ltd. (Hitachi AMS) presented their road maps for development of autonomous driving technology and showcased their newest technologies.
Suppliers such as Denso, Clarion Co., Ltd., Valeo S.A., Calsonic Kansei Corporation, and Toshiba Corporation exhibited next-generation HMI or cockpit concepts. They anticipate that communication (exchange of information) between drivers and vehicles will become even more important when autonomous driving is actualized.
The use of electronic mirrors in place of side mirrors has been authorized (Japanese law was changed to allow them in June 2016). Because of this, Valeo and Ichikoh Industries, Ltd. displayed their electronic mirror systems, and the cockpit concepts of the suppliers noted above incorporate electronic mirrors.
