Summary

The automotive industry is strengthening its efforts toward carbon neutrality throughout the supply chain. At trade shows held in Japan, initially from around 2022, automobile manufacturers and major suppliers began to introduce their initiatives in presentations, and gradually, carbon neutral-related products and activities were displayed in the exhibition booths of each company. Recently, the initiatives of each company have expanded to Scope 1 ~ 3 (note: one of the standards for calculating and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions), and various examples are being introduced in the areas of parts, materials, and energy.

This report focuses on carbon neutrality-related exhibits that MarkLines has covered for about a year, including examples of biomass, such as biofuels, biomass materials, and cellulose nanofibers, which utilize resources derived from biological sources. These are designed to reduce CO2 emissions as substitutes for petroleum-derived raw materials, as well as to reduce environmental impacts through means such as the use of thinned wood and recycling.
